Mo' Simulation

Last night I posted up some of the sim outputs, and I've been working on packaging it up in a GUI. Still not quite finished, but this is turning out pretty nice.

Now, usually, I don't do this but uh, go head' on and break 'em off wit a lil' preview of the remix....

Get to click through at any point, from straight-ahead to limit cornering and take a look at individual tire states, how saturated they are, and tweak the design from there. Pretty legit.

once again tom, you leave me bemused as to how you mange to do this stuff!
I'm about to attempt to write a basic lapsim myself but there's just so much to take n before you can even start!

Lap simulation is a pretty ambitious undertaking. Much moreso than I'll probably go after. I like using the simplest tools I can get away with.

A trimmed cornering sim like this is surprisingly easy when you break it down. Static balance of 4 forces and moments.

have u thought about using Msc.Adams? i clearly see that u are really good in matlab ;)

I could use Adams/car.. but why bother? Very expensive, and I don't really see the need for a multi-body simulation.

Will this car be competitive with the other chassis that are already running?

Good question. Might be dog slow, might smoke everyone. Might be middle of the pack.

If / when I get around to building the thing, I am very confident I can squeeze substantially more mechanical / tire grip out of the package than the competition. It's (part of) what I do for a living.

Hi!

Amazing stuff!

I am a race engineer and i work on a formula student project but it is really interesting to follow your work on this car.

Which kind o simulation you are using to do all this stuff on lateral forces and on suspension geometry optimization you are talking about in your posts?

I read also about your process of finding, for example, you ideal camber curve from your tire data and implementing it immediately in your kinematic!

All the simulation stuff I code myself.
